Bring your children dressed in fun costumes (no scary ones please) and join in on the games and fun and help raise money for Catawba County students!
We have had a great week!!! I am so proud of my students! They have slipped back into the swing of school and are doing a great job!!! I have already had the fortune to be in the classrooms discussing good hygiene and healthy choices for a new, positive school year! Just ask Thornton 5th graders what they think about our fiber discussion !!!!!
I hope to be invited into even more classes this year to talk about good health and why it is so important for our families!
If your child is in need of a careplan, please let me know and I will get the information to you. Thank you to all parents that have sent in their medical forms. I truly appreciate your help! I have gone through all that I have received so far this week and will continue to look for students needing my help.
Have a wonderful holiday this weekend and we will continue to learn next week!
It is time for school! Summer is gone and it is time to come back to school! You have been missed! I look forward to a new year and all that we will learn together. I hope to be in the classrooms teaching more health education and will be seeing you for health screenings (dental, vision, BMI).
If you need information regarding physicians, dentists, nutrition, or general health please don't hesitate to contact me! I will be sending home lots of information at the first of the year, so be on the lookout.
Enjoy the rest of the week and see you Monday!
School is almost here again! I look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces on August 25th! I have missed you this summer! I hope you are having a fun summer and getting ready to start back with healthy habits :)
I am getting medication paperwork and careplans ready for the new school year and hope to get many of them in the mail to your home. I am also continuing to review our new kinder records (shots and physical health assessments). For all of our upcoming kinders, students must have a complete immunization schedule and physical to stay at school. You have 30 calendar days starting August 25th to get these requirements met. If you have any questions, please let me know!
ALL rising 6th graders.... If you have a child that will be entering the 6th grade in August you must have your child vaccinated with the Tdap vaccine. This is a requirement to enter into the 6th grade. This vaccine will protect your child against tetanus, diptheria and pertussis (Whopping cough).
Please schedule an appointment for a booster vaccine with your doctor or Public Health and vaccinate your child. Thanks!!
Will your child need an emergency care plan? I am busy gearing up for our next school year and checking off things to cover and came across care plans. Will your child need an emergency care plan for a health/medical condition?
If your child has asthma, seizures, food allergies, bee sting allergies, diabetes, etc they may need a care plan.
A care plan is a written set of instructions and directions that that school staff (and myself) follow to help keep your child safe and healthy at school. This plan allows you to give us directions in what to do if your child has an asthma attack or seizure, etc.
If you feel your child needs a care plan for ANY TYPE of medical/health condition, please let me know and we can complete the paperwork and have it ready for our new school year.
Also, if your child will be taking medicine during the school day we must complete permission paperwork for that! I have all of the necessary documents for you! Let me know and I will get everything you need to take the doctor for the medications. Thanks!
Bee allergy???? It is gorgeous outside, with tons of sunshine and bees! Yes, we have bees...and pollen! Does your child have a bee sting allergy? Does your child require emergency medicine (epi-pen) if they are stung? This is VERY important information for the school to know.
On sunny days, while our students are outside during recess they may encounter a bee. Sometimes staff and students have been stung and everything is fine. However, for students with severe bee sting allergies we do not like to take chances! If your child's doctor has prescribed an Epi-pen for bee stings, please let me know! I want to make sure your child is safe while at play. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!
Change of chlothing... Sometimes our students have accidents and need a change of clothes. Sometimes they do not make it to the bathroom in time and soil their clothing. Times like this we need to change them into dry pants.
Sadly, our "clothing closet" is not full of clean pants, underwear, and socks. If your child has a possibility of needing a change of clothing, please send a set with him/her, this will ensure they will always have clean, dry pants, underwear, and socks to put on.
Also, if you have clean pants you would like to donate...please send them to school. We are always looking for smaller sized boy and girl pants to have on hand for these emergencies. And we really need new underwear and socks!
Nut Free???????????? What does a NUT FREE classroom mean? Our schools take nut allergies seriously! A nut allergy can be fatal and we have several students with nut allergies. If your child is in a NUT FREE class this means there is a student in his/her class that has a nut allergy. We ask that all parents be aware of this fact and not send nut products to school to share at parties, etc.
Now, I love a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, it is my favorite and I know that kids love them for lunch as well. I respect that! If your child does bring a nut product for his/her snack or lunch the teacher makes sure these students and our student with the nut allergy do not sit together...we don't want to take any chances. We also ask ALL of our students (for lots of reasons) to wash their hands before and after eating. This helps us make sure that a child eating nut products does not carry the material on their hands and touch the child with an allergy. Some students are so sensitive to nuts that just inhaling the fine dust particles or being touched by someone that has handled a peanut butter cracker or pbj sandwich can cause a serious reaction!
Thank you for understanding and helping us keep our students safe at school!
Careplans!!! Careplans!!!! Careplans are so important to us at school! What are they? These are detailed plans we (staff) follow for any child that has a health condition, whether it is a food allergy, asthma, seizure, diabetes, etc. We need these plans to help keep your child healthy and safe at school.
If your child has a health concern and you feel he/she needs a careplan at school PLEASE let me know, so we can get this paperwork completed. The plan provides emergency contact names and numbers, medications your child normally takes, as well as emergency medicine they may need, and specific actions to follow in an emergency.
Please let me know if you think you may need a careplan for this coming school year and I will be happy to gather this information for you!
